Dance Recital

Our annual dance recital is a huge celebration of all that your dancer has learned and accomplished this year. From preschool ballet to our competitive dance team, you'll love the lights, the costumes, and the talent that shines at Sterling!

Parents: What to Expect

Below is some helpful information that you can reference prior to dress rehearsal and recital to be prepared! We will always communicate with you directly via email as well.

COSTUMES

Costumes are usually distributed a few weeks prior to recital. Please have your dancer try them on as soon as you receive them in case you need to make any small alterations or need a few strategically placed pins!

Dancers should wear undergarments that are light in color - especially if their costume is a light color.

TICKETS

All tickets are general admission and there are no assigned seats. When doors open to the venue, you will be able to take your seat. Tickets will be available before the show at Sterling's front desk or at the door the day of the show.

DRESS REHEARSAL

Dress rehearsal is normally held a day or 2 before the show. A rehearsal schedule will be sent out. Although rehearsal may be several hours long, your child only needs to attend the time slot for their dance(s). Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for dress rehearsal so your child will be ready to dance at their scheduled time.

HAIR & MAKEUP

All dancers need to arrive at dress rehearsal and recital in costume with makeup and hair done. Teachers will not be able to help students as they will be gathering dancers or be on stage running each routine.

Dancers should have their hair pulled back into a low bun, just above the neck.

Dancers should wear a bit of foundation, blush, red lipstick, and neutral eyeshadow.

WHAT TO BRING

Your dancer should only have their costume(s), tights, and any required shoes such as ballet slippers, tap shoes, or sneakers for hip hop.

They can have a water bottle but NO FOOD OR SNACKS are allowed backstage. Not only is this a rule at the venue, but we've had enough accidental food/juice spills on costumes to know that it's a smart rule!

PHOTOS & VIDEOS

There is no photography or video recording allowed by the audience. This is to protect the privacy of other children on stage.

There will be a fabulous recital video that you'll receive for free, and photo week will happen the week before recital at the gym. You'll be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy your child's performance!

WHAT IF...

If you have a younger child we know that a recital may feel a bit overwhelming for them. We will have assistants backstage to help with stage fright, and most of our preschool dances will have their student assistants dancing with them on stage to provide a confidence boost.

We will not force your child on stage if they are not able or willing to perform. Sometimes the best we get is that they come out on stage in costume - and stand there! It happens, so please be prepared for that possibility.

PLEASE have your child use the restroom prior to going backstage to help prevent potty emergencies!
